Skin ageing is a very complex and irreversible event, the structure of the skin changes as time goes by, the physiological changes lead to loss of elasticity and hydration, the appearance of wrinkles and blemishes.
This process can be divided into two main categories: intrinsic ageing and ageing affected by environmental factors (also called photo-ageing).
From a physiological point of view, both intrinsic ageing and photo-ageing have several aspects in common, mainly represented by the degradation of hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring sugar molecule widely present in the skin, where it regulates natural cell turnover and, more deeply, in the dermis, where it contributes to maintaining its microarchitecture.
Hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic acid is a unique molecule with unique prerogatives, which keeps collagen young, more elastic and extensible and, thanks to its molecular structure, it is able to bind significant quantities of water.
Its physiological action therefore determines a plumping, redensifying and obviously moisturising effect; ultimately, young and elastic skin.
